Contactless payments are a quick and secure way to pay without inserting your card or entering a PIN. However, it’s important to note that:

  • The daily cumulative limit for contactless transactions is MUR 5,000 approximately (USD 109, EUR 95, GBP 80, CNY 785).

  • For transactions above MUR 2,500 approximately (USD 55, EUR 51, GBP 42, CNY 401), or when the MUR 5,000 daily limit is exceeded, the Point of Sale (POS) may prompt for a PIN or decline the transaction, based on the terminal settings.

To avoid inconvenience, always be prepared to enter your PIN when making high-value purchases.

Payment validation methods may vary from one country to another. While some merchants use a PIN-based system, others rely on signature validation to approve transactions. MauBank’s security protocols require a PIN for transaction approval, meaning that:

  • If your card is declined at a merchant that uses signature-based validation, consider an alternative payment method or request to enter your PIN.

In certain countries, debit cards may not be accepted for in-store purchases at POS (Point-of-Sale) terminals. If you encounter a declined transaction:

  • Check whether the merchant accepts debit cards.
